Happy Homecoming Week!

If you didn't see the change, our spirit days have been modified for Homecoming week.  Here is the updated information:

Please be sure that you join in the fun of Homecoming.  Be safe and make good decisions!

App Development 1

This week, students will have Monday's class to finish up our first summative app: "Hello World".

After that, we will move into our second unit.  This week, we will focus on creating new UIViews and Segmented Controllers, as well as operators. Students will complete an "operators challenge" this week to practice working with variables and mathematical operations.

AP Computer Science A

This week, students will have two work days to complete our summative programming assignment.
Students will work with variable creation, classes, and methods in order to complete the assignment.  During Wednesday's class, students will review for our summative.  Our second summative for the year will be on Friday.  Important due dates for the week include:

  • Tuesday: Review Exercises Due
  • Wednesday: Concept 1 Exercises Due (5 Steps to a 5 Book)
  • Thursday: Programming Exercises Due & Summative Review Due
  • Friday: Unit 2 Summative: Using Objects

Web 1

We will start the week by finishing up our lesson 3 web assignments where students were able to practice marking up lists, quotes, and large sections of our web page.  This week, we will focus on adding links to external sites, linking other documents that we created, and linking within our document.  This week, students will need to read chapter 6 and complete the reading guide.  We will also have our weekly multiple choice summative and three web site assignments.

What's Going On? September 17th through September 21st

App Development

This week in App Development, we will start off with a "Variables Challenge" assignment.  For this
assignment, students will work with an existing code file and add additional commands to make text appear in labels.  Once this work with variable practice is complete, students will begin work on our first end of unit app challenge, "Hello World".  For this assignment, students will demonstrate their knowledge of labels, buttons, and variables as well as investigate a few new features.

AP Computer Science

Now that we have completed our first unit, it is time to start expanding our knowledge of Java.
During this week, we will learn about the relationship between classes and objects as well as start working with variables.  Students will have several reading assignments this week to complete chapter 2, as well as a guided notes template.  In class, students will work on several small programming projects to get familiar with Java variable syntax and how we are able to use classes, objects, and methods.

Programming the Web 1

This week we will be finishing up lesson 2 and beginning lesson 3.  We will start Monday's class with about how to create lists, quotes, and much more.  Students should read chapter 5 and complete the accompanying reading guide by Thursday.  We will have our 10 multiple choice question assessment on Friday.  Students will also have three web pages to complete in order to practice our new skills.
our 10 multiple choice questions that cover the material from our second lesson.  Students will have the rest of Monday's class to finish up our lesson 2 programming projects and to submit them.  During Wednesday's class, we will continue learning about different ways to format text using HTML tags.  We will learn

What's Going On? September 10th through September 14th

App Development 1

We will start off this week by reviewing how to create actions and outlets.  Specifically, we will work
on creating a button and modifying our screen.  We will accomplish this by creating a basic flashlight app.  Next, we will move into talking about image views.  This will allow us to add pictures to our app.  We will finish the week with a discussion about algorithms and talking about the design process behind building an app.

Programming the Web 1

During our first week of class, students completed a "jigsaw" reading activity to summarize some of
the important parts of our first reading assignment.  During class on Monday, students will complete our multiple-choice review question assessment.  Students have the weekend to pre-plan answers to the questions.  Once we have completed our first set of review questions, we will move into our second unit.  This will involve learning about the basic structure of a web page.  This week, students will be responsible for reading chapter 4 in our textbook and completing the accompanying reading guide.  During class, students will work on three web page assignments that will get us familiar with the basic structure of a web page designed using HTML.  We will finish the week with our second set of multiple-choice review questions.

At the end of the week, students who are interested in signing up for FREE WCTC credit in web design will be completing the application.  Please have a discussion at home as to whether or not enrolling in the course for WCTC credit would be a good option.

AP Computer Science A

This week, we will continue our study on the introduction to Java programming.  Students will be
working on creating some java programs using the Eclipse programming environment.  We will finish the week with a review and a summative assessment.

Open House

This Friday, North will be hosting an open house from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.  All freshmen teachers will be available in the building from 5:00pm - 6:30pm.  If you would like a chance to connect with me, please see me in room 300.
